Love my Peace Banner! It is on my studio door to remind me through out the day to stay calm and not stress out even when all it crazy around me! Also it reminds me to spread the word of peace whenever possible! Positive affirmations really work for me!!! View of the studio in the background from the garden and where my tiny little peppers are growing! Also here is the pond, the lily pad is blooming and also the fishes just had babies!! So I when I take a break to stretch my back I love watching them...they are so cute!! When the weather is cooler I usually have in the windows open so I can hear the fountain which is very relaxing and keeps me from stressing out!!

I have animal medallion stickers on both of the skinny windows by the door... Love these!!!!

I love my Shepard Fairey print !!!! I try to do this every day!!!

This is the polishing area this is where the sterling items get a really high polished finish also where I do satin finishing on most items.

Letter stamping area~ This is where the words come into the picture!! I use letter stamps and a hammer to stamp each individual letter that you see in a piece!

I get asked a lot how I learned how to make jewelry so here is a brief bit. At first I started on my own then took some classes at the Craft Guild of Dallas and also worked with two other jewelers a long the way. A couple of my favorites resources are below! The Complete Metalsmith by Tim McCreight is a must have!!! Metalsmith magazine is just so inspiring creatively!

But really the key I feel to making jewelry is that you really, really, need to love it!! It is really messy , labor intensive, detail oriented work and behind the scenes is just not glamorous at all so I feel like in order to stick with jewelry making it really needs to speak to you in some creative way!!! Fortunately for me it does and I LOVE it!!

Love these!!! These are my inspiration cards...little thank you notes and mementos from happy clients! I cherish these...they remind me of how thoughtful and connected we all are as people and the images remind me to always keep working to get the messages of those that have no voice out in whatever positive way I can.

Green in the Studio

Hope you are all having a wonderful fun summer! I have added some new green items to the studio that I would like to share! First of all I am so happy to have finally found a biodegradable recloseable baggie!
If you have ever ordered jewelry from me your item came in a plastic baggie! And although I meant for this baggie to be reused as it can help you keep your jewelry item from getting tangled in your jewelry box and it also can help prevent tarnish, as exposure to oxygen accelerates the tarnishing process especially on sterling and copper items...it was still regular plastic! So after searching for ages finally I found a recloseable baggie that is oxo biodegradable plastic which means that instead of staying as is in a landfill for hundreds of years if it is thrown out it will biodegrade in a matter of months! You can recycle it with your regular plastic items as well! They are working on this process so that eventually it will also be compostable! I still wish it was something besides a plastic but it is definitely a step in a the right direction! Yay! My conscious is clean(er)!

Some other green improvements around the studio are that my new business cards are now 100% recycled paper as are the recipe cards! You can get these babies at Vista Print. They now offer 100% recycled paper on their business cards etc. for a bit more...but is is worth it!

Also in an effort to reduce paper the Care instructions for each jewelry item is now located on the back of the business card that the jewelry is attached to in the baggie.

As a little reminder, my gift boxes that I have been using for some time are 100% recycled and are made with 70% post consumer paper! Yippee!
I also now use a paper raffia bow instead of a ribbon so that if it gets tossed instead of reused it is recyclable!

My regular office paper that I use for other printables is also 100% recycled and you can get this at your local Office Max (They usually hide it on the top shelf.... so be vigilant and do not settle for the 30% recycled one that's at eye level...along with all the other virgin tree paper).

If you have not heard of Terracycle you must check them out! They have all kinds of awesome recycled stuff! I use the pens in the studio for taking notes throughout the day...these guys are made out of corn and are biodegradable! I do not see these on their website at the moment but please check out all their recycled goodies at Terracycle!

Summer Studio Update

Well, summer has arrived here in the studio and Julep and I are braving the Texas heat...
the studio has some really nice shady trees around so it stays pretty cool!
That said I do think little Miss Julep is dreaming of traveling back in time to the
giant snowstorm that happened this past February Twenty Ten!

I have decided an update was in order as new designs have been added to the site and to also add an update of a collaboration with Compassionate Cooks that happened a few months ago!

First of all the new designs for summer are cuties if I do say so myself and very wearable ...they are the new Farm Animal Minis collection!

These little guys and gals have all the cuteness as my original designs but at a fraction of the size! Check them out!

They can either be stamped "Vegan" or with a compassionate little heart!

The pendants are made of Recycled aluminum and the chain is sterling silver!

For the Easter / Spring soiree this year we had one of my favorite recipes Vegan Deviled Tofu aka (vegan deviled eggs). If you have ordered any jewelry from me in the last month you probably received this recipe as one of your freebies! I have to say this was such a hit with even the non vegans at the Soiree that I just had to share with all!

VEGAN DEVILED TOFU

1 t. salt

2 cups warm water

1 lb firm tofu (faux the "Egg whites"

1/2 lb firm tofu (for filling)

1/2 cup + 1 t. Veganaise

or other soy mayo

1/2 t. mustard

3/4 t. salt

1/8 t. pepper

3/4 t. tumeric

2 t. turmeric

2 t. rice vinegar

1/2 t. vegan Worcestershire sauce

Paprika

Cherry Tomatoes

1. "Egg Whites": Combine salt and water in a large baking dish and stir well to dissolve the salt and set aside.

2. Drain and rinse the 1 lb of tofu. Cut tofu into one-half-inch thick slices

vertically, cut each slice in half to become 2 pieces that are almost square. Using a small paring knife, form each square into an oval, imitating the shape of a hard-boiled egg cut in half.

3. Then, with a small spoon, carefully scoop out the centers of each of the ovals to form a cavity.

Marinate all the prepared ovals in the salt water while preparing the filling. Add cut-away pieces to the filling.

4. FILLING: Drain and rinse the 1/2 lb tofu. Using the fingers, crumble the tofu into a medium-size mixing bowl.

5. Add remaining ingredients except the paprika and cherry tomatoes and stir well to blend throughly,

adjust seasoning to taste if needed.

6. Drain "Egg whites" on several layers of paper towels and fill cavities with prepared filling.

7. Sprinkle the tops with paprika and arrange leaving the center open for the cherry tomatoes.

Makes about 16 halves.

Spiral Diner-Yummy Vegan Food!

Okay, I just have to let everyone know about my favorite all vegan diner! I am there practically every day at least once and sometimes more!!

Spiral Diner is a 100% vegan and mostly organic and have two locations one in Fort Worth,Texas and the other in Dallas Texas.

The menu includes wraps, sandwiches,burgers,pasta dishes, tacos,nachos, awesome not your every day salads and much more.....

The yummy vegan sandwiches are all delish but The Mitch is a fave....it is like a club sandwich and I like it with a side of pasta salad!

They also recently starting a blue plate special that is now part of the regular menu of Spinach quesadillas and others using the Daiya cheese that are fabulous....you have to check them out!

But the best is the desserts ... oh my.... All are made from scratch in the restaurant! There are peanut butter cups, cupcakes, cookies, pies, pudding and they have just started making vegan Rocky Road ice cream with the tiny Sweet & Sara's Marshmellows.....it is genius!

Oh, and did I mention Cake! They have superb cakes.... all kinds and can even do custom wedding,birthday,or other special occasion cakes on request! Absolutely a must for your next Vegan Birthday! (or just because)

United Poultry Concerns Charity of the Month
